Ladakh Inner Line Permits: The 2026 Process, Simplified

Nubra, Pangong, Tso Moriri, Hanle, Turtuk and Umling La all sit in protected areas, which means Indian travellers need an Inner Line Permit and foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit.
Indian citizens apply online through the Ladakh administration portal or in person at the DC office in Leh, with a scanned government photo ID. Approval is usually same-day.
Fees are two parts: a small per-day environment fee and a one-time Red Cross plus wildlife protection charge. Together it typically comes to a few hundred rupees per person.
Carry at least six printed copies. Checkposts keep one each at Khardung La, Shyok, Pangong, Tsaga La and Hanle, and they will not accept a photo on your phone at every post.
Foreign nationals cannot get permits for a few sensitive pockets at all, and need to apply as a group of two or more through a registered agent.
